Scottish chain Davidsons Chemists has grown its store footprint to 58 with the acquisition of an independent pharmacy in Angus, broker Christie & Co has said.
The independent multiple recently acquired Edzell Pharmacy, a standard-hours community pharmacy with a monthly average of 4,961 items and a service roster including Pharmacy First Plus as well as private offerings including weight loss and vitamin B12 replacement.
The pharmacy also provides monitoring dosage systems for around 50 patients a nearby care home, said the broker, adding that it has a “modern” consultation room and is the only pharmacy within a six-mile radius.
John Fowlie, who had owned it since July 2014, decided to sell “to concentrate on his other three branches in the north of Scotland,” said Christie & Co. The pharmacy was sold through a confidential process for an undisclosed price.
Mr Fowlie said: “I have enjoyed owning Edzell Pharmacy for the last 12 years but, with my other branches being based further north, I wanted to concentrate on that area going forward.”
Davidsons Chemists managing director Allan Gordon commented: “We are pleased to have Edzell Pharmacy join the Davidsons Chemists group as it fits in well with our brand and core geography.”
Christie & Co pharmacy director Karl Clezy said the transaction “marks a special milestone” as he handled the sale to Mr Fowlie in 2014, adding: “It has been a privilege to support him once again on this successful exit 12 years later.”
